I love how the author doesn’t fall into the trap of the whiny teenagers. Having her body change uncontrollably and in an unwanted, but sudden, way is just one more thing that she has to deal with. Being told that she can’t be with the guy she wants, and not being able to tell him why, is an awful thing for a girl with her first crush.
